After the murder of a recreation worker at a city center, Mayor Jim Kenney issued an executive order banning guns at playgrounds and recreation centers. A local judge overturned Mayor Kennedy’s order, because it violates state law.
This is madness. People will die. Are guns in schools okay too?
A Philadelphia Common Pleas Court judge on Monday blocked the city from enforcing an executive order Mayor Jim Kenney signed last week banning guns at recreation centers and playgrounds following the fatal shooting of a Parks and Recreation employee last month.
The Gun Owners of America, on behalf of several state residents, filed a lawsuit last Tuesday, the day Kenney signed his order. After hearing arguments Friday, Judge Joshua H. Roberts issued his ruling siding with the plaintiffs and ordering Philadelphia to be “permanently enjoined” from enforcing Kenney’s ban.
The lawsuit cited Pennsylvania state law that prohibits any city or county from passing gun-control measures. The preemption law, which the city has repeatedly sought to overturn, bans local government from passing gun-control measures that are stricter than state gun laws.
Andrew B. Austin, the attorney representing the plaintiffs, said in an emailed statement: “For my part, I am gratified that the Court of Common Pleas was able to so quickly resolve this suit, but that was in large part because the law is so explicit: The City is not allowed to regulate possession of firearms in any manner.”
Let’s see, the Republicans are saying that crime is skyrocketing in the big liberal cities. But when those same liberal cities do something about it they’re violating someone’s Second Amendment rights. And it’s all the fault of the big city liberals. Got it.
Actually it skyrocketed in Republican controlled states far more .Also it skyrocketed in 2020 .Remind me who was President in 2020. 2021 saw slight increases over 2020. Murders had been going up for several years before 2020 around the Nation (notably not Ultra Left (sarcasm) NYC under deBlasio) . Murders and shootings have been coming down this year . Down almost 14% in NYC,YTD. Don’t expect to hear that in the media before the election . Democrats fight with pillows . In NYC in spite of the Rt wing and Police Union Hype, per-capita; NYC is the Bluest and safest big city in America. Safer than when Bloombucket made that claim in 2012. Of course the media will always focus on the the little old lady shoved under a train . What they neglect to mention is that one is more likely to get murdered outside the gates of Mar a Lago in West Palm Beach Fl.

That’s it in a nutshell.
That was my reply to Uncle Albert’s Nephew’s succinct summation.
Reblogged this on Ned Hamson's Second Line View of the News and commented:
Gun insanity will rule until collectively we say no more and change state and national laws on guns that make the world safer for everyone.
If people keep voting for the GOP, we expect a decline in all things public. The extremist GOP will destroy a civil society and trounce on democracy. A perfect example is Matt Gaetz’s vote against disaster aid for Florida, his home state. His rationale, most likely handed to him by the Kochs, is that it is ” legislation the harms our federalist system, deprives states of the ability to innovate, and continues the failure of the federal government.” Gaetz also is opposed to further aid to Ukraine. This is what can be expected if people keep putting right wing extremists in power.
Then… the GOP local (there), PA, or national have not right to complain about or comment on school shootings and safety. They want to spend (finally) on guards, barriers, lock down improvement and more – but then… wait for it… they will allow GUNS on the premises.
The Mayor with a band of citizens with children who play on playgrounds should file OCR Complaints! Like… the civil right to life (and liberty and pursuit of happiness).
To the judge and the enabling organizations “blood on you hands” when there is shooting. Plain and simple. A sign on a playground is not going to stop a gun toting individual determined to do harm – but Judge, you essentially put up a sign that says “Guns Allowed”
I think the group that claims they represent “The Gun Owners of America” handpicked the judge that made this ruling. It’s possible that if there’s an appeal, there may be a reversal.
I own several firearms (all but one locked up all the time in a firearm safe that is bolted to my house so thieves couldn’t steal the safe and open it later somewhere else) and “the Gun Owners of America” do not represent what I think.
And all of my firearms are double-locked up when I leave the house with the alarm system turned on, too.
Thieves would have to break into the house (all of the perimeter doors have been enhanced making it more difficult to break in), set the alarm off, break through a solid core steel clad door that cannot be kicked in to reach the safe, and then if they made it that far, they’d have to pick the lock on the safe, all while the alarm was going crazy with brain rattling noise while it’s calling the alarm company and the police.
A friend who served in the Marines and Specials Forces for almost 14 years, helped me reinforce all of my doors. He said it would be easier to break through the wall to get into the house then go through the doors.
