We keep making this mistake. Mr. Trump is not the source of most of his administration’s efforts. I would go so far as to say “almost all.” Cabinet secretaries are allowed to create their own programs with no interference. Mr. Trump is a human smoke screen, while the miscreants we really need to pay attention to are hard at work behind the screen. And theya re not evil, merely boaught and paid for by the billionaires who are running the show now.
Mr. Trump has neither the IQ nor the political chops to get anything done. In fact, his greatest contribution to the country have been the times he has scotched the efforts of the minions behind the screen’s dirty work.
Consider Betsey DeVos. Need I say more? Do you think Donald Trump has a constructive idea regarding education? Most conservatives wanted to do away with the position but now that a public education destroyer is Secretary, I have not heard a single call for the elimination of the department. Full speed ahead when there is money to be made by the plutocrats … well, and also collective democracy to be undermined.

If we judge them by their actions, then, yes, they are evil. They may not sound evil, but we should not judge them by what they say, but by what they do and the results of what they do.

Very smart reading by Steve Ruis, thank you. The problem is not “smart” vs. “stupid” but rather the social class allegiance, the gendered policy orientations, and the racist maintenance of white privilege which drive all policy. Trump the bungling vulgar self-centered moron is doing very well for his class of billionaires–Wall Street is soaring, profit margins are high, new tax laws give corporations with several trillion in the bank a tax holiday to repatriate foreign revenues, oil giants can drill offshore in new places, etc. Trump is pushing the envelope aggressively in favor of the 1% but so did Obama, Bush, and Clinton before him. The terrible war on public education has always been a bipartisan campaign; Obama opened the door for DeVos. Without an alternative to the Democratic Party, progressives of all kinds are at a great disadvantage in this ugly moment for the nation.
