Andy Borowitz, a humorist for The New Yorker, writes today that Mike Pence is seriously considering a run for the Presidency–in 1820.
According to several prominent Republican donors, Pence is already laying the groundwork for such a campaign, outlining what he believes are the most serious challenges facing 1820 America.
In a conference call with donors last week, Pence reportedly said that, as President, his No. 1 priority would be to repeal and replace the Bill of Rights.
He offered a sneak preview of a potential 1820 stump speech, in which he unleashed a brutal attack on the Bill of Rights’ author, James Madison, and called for the development of the telegraph key.
This satire reminds us that Trump has no ideology; he just does whatever he thinks will appease his evangelical base. Pence, however, is deeply ideological. He is no joke.

I’d still rather have Pence than a narcissist who would rather see that world reduced to a cinder than to lose face.

I live in Indiana. Born and raised. As much as Trump is upending our country, I know that Pence with his calm demeanor will destroy democracy. Seriously.

I hear he will introduce the Pence Doctrine, which will compel federal entanglements in all phases of private life.

If I may add to your sentence GregB:
“I hear he will introduce the Pence Doctrine, which will compel federal XTIAN entanglements in all phases of private life.”
He said he is basing this on the Puritan Founding Fathers Doctrine!

Mate,
Both are awful. Both should be removed. Having no president would be preferable to an illegitimate one

Hmmm … trying to reflect on the lesser of the evils but there is no LESSER EVIL. Trump (barf)… Pence (barf)…. But, if there is a nano grain of finding something “good” in all of this and the bad situation prevails… either Trump hangs on to his sham presidency or Pence rides his coattails and steps in … I am hoping over the 4 long years, Americans will become SO sick of the ongoings and SO AWARE of the political problems in this nation AND WILL FINALLY react EN MASSE to restore democracy. The public should be sick of Republicans and Democrats (who have enacted large-scale corporatism) after this EXTRAORDINARY 4 years (and even longer when factoring in corporatism under democrats). Maybe Americans will be then ready for a Sanders-like message and elect a more progressive leaning president in 3 years and 5 months (but who is counting the time left in this term 🙂 🙂 )!!!! Republicans and democrats alike will have nobody to blame for their demise except for the self interest and greed that they promulgated for so many years. The poor and declining middle class of this nation can only take so much BS… even many of the Trump voters who bought the Kool Aid are starting to come to their senses (as is suggested by Trump’s continued decline in popularity from this base). If suffering through TrumpPence for 4 years “is the final straw” then there is just a nano of good if it FINALLY breaks the camel’s back!!!!
