Garrison Keillor penned a plea to the GOP to rein in the man they just elected.
An excerpt:
Everyone knows that the man is a fabulator, oblivious, trapped in his own terrible needs. Republican, Democrat, libertarian, socialist, white supremacist or sebaceous cyst — everyone knows it. It is up to Republicans to save the country from this man. They elected him, and it is their duty to tie a rope around his ankle. They formed a solid bloc against President Obama and held their ranks, and now, for revenge, they will go after health insurance subsidies for people of limited means, which is one of the cruelest things they can possibly do. Dishwashers and cleaning ladies need heart surgery, too — hospital emergency rooms already see streams of sick people, uninsured, poor or unable to deal with the paperwork, coming in for ordinary care, and when upward of 30 million are left high and dry, people will suffer horribly. “Nobody is going to be dying on the streets,” Trump said. No, they’re going to die at home in their bedrooms.
The question is: How cynical are we willing to be and for how long? How long will Senate Republicans wait until a few of them stand up to the man? Greatness is in the eye of the beholder. American self-respect is what is at stake here, ladies and gentlemen. The only good things to come out of that inauguration were the marches all over the country the day after, millions of people taking to the streets of their own free will, most of them women, packed in tight, lots of pink hats, lots of signage, earnest, vulgar, witty, a few brilliant (“Take your broken heart and make it art”), and all of it rather civil and good-humored. That’s the great America I grew up in. It’s still here.

He he he…no need to go anywhere else. Just get your facts from the President.

Oh Garrison, I wish it were still here. Civility is a casualty of the Twenty First Century. It breaks my heart that the children of today will grow up in the world we have crafted for them. That said, the piece was beautifully written.

“Nobody is going to be dying on the streets,” Trump said.
No, they won’t die on the streets. Trump will make sure that all the homeless end up in prison where they will have the best medical care in the world like prisons have offered for decades.
To beat Trump, if you don’t have insurance, are unemployed, and have cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. just smoke some weed in front of a police officer in a GOP dominated state and when you reach prison, you will get free medical care as long as you stay in prison.
If you don’t want to smoke weed, pay a minor, boy or girl, under 18 to say you seduced them and you will get sent to prison for 20 years or more with full medical care.
That is, unless Littlefingers Donald Trump doesn’t take away the prison medical care too.

How do they sleep at night?
How do they explain their support of T**** to their daughters?
How do they go home to children with disabilities and represent schools across their Congressional districts where +/- 15% of the students with disabilities – and defend their support of the Edu nominee?
How do Congressmen and women face the coal miners in their states who supported T**** and explain their soon-to-be vote against ACA leaving black lung disease is not covered because of T****. Promises, promises.
Hold every Congressman and woman accountable for every vote. Point out how T**** is hurting their constituents and their voting record supports it. T**** will get bored and move on; The 435 and third of the Senate are up for election in a blink of the eye.

Democrat, Chuck Schumer, had a Eureka moment.. provoked by the DeVos confirmation hearing. A plot, to privatize America’s most important common good, is afoot. (Sherlock Holmes, he’s not.)
It’ll be fun to watch, if any other Democratic politicians, find the problem, now that they have no power.

This many people disliked Trump on the first day of his Presidency. How long will it take for Congress to realize that Trump is a problem? I worry that Pence would be even more destructive. He is a zealot who knows politics.

let’s cross our fingers that Trump will screw up the entire political machine so fully that should Pence ever take over he would have years of unraveling, nicemaking and re-appointing to do…

“The most erroneous assumption is to the effect that the aim of public education is to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence, and so make them fit to discharge the duties of citizenship in an enlightened and independent manner. Nothing could be further from the truth. The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all; it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States, whatever the pretensions of politicians, pedagogues and other such mountebanks, and that is its aim everywhere else.”

What’s the aim of the on-line and charter chain’s, for-profit schools or, the schools linked to a Turkish national, or, the mega church schools? Answer, to get the taxpayers’ money, denying them a democratic vote on how its spent and using politicians to erode any accountability.

Politico reports that Cory Booker “joined Schumer’s team”. The odds, that Schumer’s aha! moment about DeVos’ threat to public education, will spread to other politicians (now that Dems are w/o power), still depends on the big money.
