Jeanne Allen of the Center for Education Reform posted a photograph in which leaders of charter schools met with their new champion: Secretary Betsy DeVos. She was joined by charter leaders from D.C., Philadelphia, New York, and California. The Ohio charter leader didn’t make it because of the snow. There were also leaders from the for-profit sector, including the virtual charter sector.
Betsy DeVos is one of them. Their hero now is in charge of the U.S. Department of Education, and she wants to divert billions of dollars from children in public schools to feed the charter industry. O happy day!
The charter industry and DeVos are on the same page. They hope to make enormous gains during her tenure in office. They see the public schools not as a public good or a civic institution, but as a target, a prize to be conquered, defeated, looted, and depleted. But it’s all for the kids!

Participating was the CEO of a Charter School Chain that settled a lawsuit with the state of CA for $168 Million!

Ray,
That is Betsy DeV’s kind of guy. She was an investor in K12 Inc. She may still be, as she decided not to divest from conflicts of interest, in keeping with the Trump administration’s indifference to ethics laws and rules.

The US Department of Education still can’t find a single strong public school or a single satisfied public school student or parent, although 90% of US children attend public schools.
What’s most remarkable to me is how public school parents who are happy with public schools are carefully excluded. All we hear are charter and private school testimonials.
I don’t mind if the US Department of Education is exclusively in the charter and private school promotion business now, but they should probably stop pretending they serve “all kids” when public schools are consistently and deliberately omitted or treated as some disfavored “default” system that exists only to backstop the “choice” schools they prefer.
This is a political campaign and it’s a political campaign designed to promote charter schools and vouchers. It excludes public school students and parents by pretending that they don’t exist.

They will never find supportive, satisfied public school student or parent, if they are unwilling to look for them. Pro-public education families do not feed their biased message.

Also, K12 doesn’t just market to charters. They couldn’t stay in business selling to 5% of schools. They hope to crack the lucrative public school market by offering cheap online courses to replace expensive teachers in public schools.
They support public schools only when public schools are buying their products. The rest of the time they lobby against your schools.

I wonder what our congressional reps plan to say when they come to campaign. They’re planning on convening groups of people, 90% of whom attended a public school and/or have kids in a public school and offer them, what? A voucher to a private school?
That’s the sum total of what they accomplished this year?
Can one of them identify one thing they did for any public school anywhere in the country? I’m supposed to listen to them on what public schools should or shouldn’t do? Why? How does that benefit our schools? How are they even credible on public schools? None of them express any interest in them.

Chiara, Show up at town halls and let them know how you feel. In our district in No Cal. These issues are being raised and our reps are talking about issues such as vouchers.

SSSSccccrrrreeeaammmm!!!!!! We are now entering the third testing horror months of the school year. I continue to wonder when we actually teach. I have self-contained, below level students who mostly do alternative assessments. But two are just a bit higher on the IQ scale so will be forced to do the 3rd grade standards. They are below level. They work at a slower pace. I push them as much as I can, but sheesh…..they are kids who progress more slowly. I don’t want to abandon public schools but this is ridiculous. We do have to do something. To make it worse, the admin doesn’t really want teachers to suggest opting out. How the heck are these parents to know this is a real option? The stress is only beginning…….

After analyzing the picture with microscopic satellite imaging techniques, we noticed an interesting similarity among the participants’ nose-tip colors.
In our lab, we developed the working hypothesis that this is a genetic disposition of the participants, and can probably be found on the nonsexual chromosome’s 69th base pair, where A might have paired with G instead of with T, causing uncontrollable nonsexual urges to express DeVotion in a way only canines have been capable of until now.
We do have some explanation why the mutation has occurred in the participants of the (nonsexual) edu-swingers gathering, but we have little understanding how Miss DeVostation has become a mutant, hence exhibiting a clear sign of self DeVotion. Possibly self-inflicted genetic engineering has occurred as contagious and particularly violent narcissmus is spreading across the No. 1 Nation.
