I hope that the LAUSD board, or at least Monica Ratliff, consults you about possible replacements. Ummn, you wouldn’t want the job, would you? Brooklyn is so overrated…
Slim pickings on the legacy listed by the LA Times. The first has been widely discounted as a good way to assess teachers, the 2nd got overturned by the court, and the third – the I-pad debacle, is still being unraveled and will probably die in the hatching.
Deasy must resign now! Why wait until February? Broad’s LA front man places corporations (Pearson) and Eli before students. Parents and taxpayers must file open records and then file civil and class action lawsuits. Follow the money that Deasy diverted from schools to his favorite vendors.
Off topic, but I want to share. Just came back from negotiations between the Palm Beach County Classroom teachers association and the School District of Palm Beach County.
The School District of Palm Beach County Does Not Value Its Teachers – offers meager salary and meager working conditions during negotiations with the Palm Beach County Classroom Teachers Association. Thursday, October 24, 2013. Have the sound on to watch.
Maybe a newspaper is about to report that his “real” doctorate really isn’t real.
He announced he was leaving Prince George’s County Public Schools when reporters started asking about his unfinished doctorate.
I’m curious about what Bill and Melinda have to say about the new developments regarding their former employee’s billion dollar tax funded iPad reforms and contracts.
I am so glad that I gave up much of my life for the past year working toward this. Now I hope the School Board listens to us and chooses a new committee, not a Blue Ribbon group, to help the in the search for a new Supt. and Asst. Supt., to help in both the search and the vetting of a multitude on candidates who are not tainted by being grads of the Broad Academy. We need and compentent proven educator for these roles, not CEOs who prefer to feed the free market than to provide real education for all the students in LAUSD.
sorry…cannot edit my material…but you all get my meaning despite the jumble of words.
It is with great relief that I write this comment, and I hope the School Board has him clean out his desk tomorrow and not wait until February which would give him too much more time to make too many more bad decisions. Deasy and Aquino should turn in their keys tomorrow.
I also will continue to press for a complete house cleaning with all the Broadies hired by Deasy leaving as well. It will be a new day when Garcia and Galatzan get replaced by better Board representatives. I look forward to supporting some few I have met in the last year who would make excellent new Board members. I thank our current ‘teacher five’ Board for their efforts.
As an aside, I understand that there will be breaking news about some California legislators who play dirty pool as well.
Since this software is suddenly working……
I would also like to add that it took a huge effort by a multitude of people, mainly educators who are both working and retired, and some fantastic community members and blog directors, to bring us to this moment…and I am glad to be in such great company. But we must continue to hang together in unity and resolve, and work with the Board on the many issues such as those suffering in teacher jail, getting nurses/librarians/and above all, teachers back in classrooms of teachable size.
Thanks to everyone who has been writing to us from other parts of the US. Today is momentous…and it is hopeful and ever more possible that the billionaire educational deconstructionists will not overcome
Sorry, but this resignation is not enough. Deasy must face major lawsuits against him in civil and any other court that has jurisdiction over his billion dollar theft of funds that bought i-pads rather than being used for the bonds they were originally designated for.
Misuse of bond money should entail harsh penalties and jail.
If he could be put in jail for just the deal itself, without any proof of wrongdoing, then the whole school board (only exception–Monica Ratliff, not yet on the board at that time) would have to be jailed too, and the LAUSD Bond Oversight Committee.
However, I think conflict of interest should be thoroughly investigated by the district (or city) attorney’s office. If proof of wrongdoing is found, yes, JD should be behnd bars
It is going to take more than an educator to run this behemoth:
During the 2007-2008 school year, LAUSD served 694,288 students, and had 45,473 teachers and 38,494 other employees. It is the second largest employer in Los Angeles County, after the county government. The total school district operating budget for 2012-2013 is $6.78 billion.
This was truly a massive effort to expose the misuse of funds. We have to be grateful for the efforts of LA Times reporter, Howard Blume. Starting with the revelation that keyboards were “accidentally” left out of the total cost, he continued to reveal other missteps. The articles gave the public a forum to state their intense displeasure at having their hard earned tax dollars spent in such a careless fashion.
But, we have to also thank you, Diane, for responding swiftly to the many requests to post articles and reports generated by local citizens, parents, and educators.
In the end, it could have been the public questioning around the iPad fiasco. One question that no one at LAUSD could or would answer is why discussions that could have revealed the many questionable aspects of the plan did not happen well in advance of the initial purchase.
Now, hopefully someone who has the humanity and dignity of teachers at heart will come. Teachers have given their very lives willingly in sacrifice for the students they love. Surely they deserve to be honored cherished and respected. A new day on the horizon, we must keep moving onward and speaking our truth fearlessly.

This is off topic, but interesting…Why does AFT want to end salary step pay increases when reasearch clearly shows that merit pay does not work…does he not think teachers should be awarded proper salaries for their work? http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/general/news/2013/10/24/77999/we-should-revamp-the-teacher-pay-system/
