A new study by Wisconsin Forward Institute finds that the state report cards reflect the economic advantage and disadvantage of students.
Schools that serve the poorest students get lowest grades.
Schools that serve the most advantaged students get highest grades.
The study also concluded that students in Wisconsin’s public schools out-perform students in Wisconsin charter schools.
Wisconsin Forward Institute discovers Gravity (again)!
Forward Institute has shown, what all Educators know, that scores are highly correlated to poverty level and that Charters are doing no better in affluent areas but somewhat worse in low poverty areas.
I find their recommendations most encouraging and hopefully they can reach their politicians.
I look forward to discuss this finding with some of the “reformers”!
I’m from WI. They can only reach our politicians if they can reach the Koch Bros. first. Good luck with that.
I sent this off to Ms. Cheesehead at FOX News who loves to put charter school advocates on her show (Brill and Rhee).
No surprise. When are they going to start closing down the charters? I work with some low-performing students in a charter(impoverished area) and I think, “Why do they keep testing these poor souls? Why do they have to be reminded over and over again that they perform at the bottom percentage of students?” Just sad. My students had to sit through days of ACT practice testing. The world has gone mad.
SAT – ACT? Do I understand – this is the ONLY way to judge intelligence ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence ) ? The world HAS gone MAD. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.
